Join me in multiplayer mode on my private server using the Java Edition of Minecraft and Zoom.

The hardest part is showing up. How to get set up right the first time can seem like a daunting task because there are so many different tools needed to participate and have fun. Please use this step-by-step guide to ensure you can join on time.

Turn Computer On

Before you join a multiplayer session in Minecraft, you need to open up the necessary applications, connect the appropriate devices, and test ahead of time so you do not waste time or unable to play during community builds.

The technology you will need:

  • Desktop or laptop computer
  • Keyboard and mouse
  • Webcam and microphone
  • High-speed Internet connection
  • Zoom installed onto the computer
  • Minecraft Java Edition installed

Optional technology:

  • Lighting
  • Two screens
  • Green screen
  • Virtual camera
  • Stream deck

Join Zoom Meeting

The purpose of the Zoom meeting is to help kids and parents communicate with one another using their voice and webcam. Web-real-time-communications is not currently supported inside of the Minecraft server. You will receive an email notification with a Zoom invitation link one day prior to the community builds. This notification contains the link to join the Zoom meeting and other useful information needed to collaborate effectively.

Get Started with Minecraft Java Edition

There are several different versions of Minecraft. There are mobile apps, Windows version, and a separate version for the Raspberry Pi. The Java version was selected because it has the most amount of users compared to other versions and available on Mac or PC.

Watch this video to see how to download Minecraft Java and get started.

Steps to follow to start the Minecraft application on your computer

  1. Sign up for Microsoft Account (if you don’t already have one).

  4. Create a username for Minecraft.
  5. Start the Minecraft application.

If you already have the Java Edition of Minecraft installed and have created a username, start practicing some basic commands to help you navigate in Minecraft. Do this by starting the game and creating your own world. Choose creative mode, not survival mode. That is rule #3.

What to do when after you join

Playtimes are meant to be structured learning opportunities where you can demonstrate resourcefulness, collaboration, and kindness. Here is an example of playtime with specific directions, blocks used for each build, and member access to the Hotbar. You do not have to be a member to join the playtime however you will not be equipped with the same resources or support.
